Badminton 180 – Grade C ranking competitions in three hours
G&NS, Yonex and Badminton Scotland have introduced a shorter format of competition, building on our successful junior leagues, Badminton 180 will deliver a series of age-group specific introductory ranking competitions.
Imagine, 18 players (probably 12 boys/ 6 girls) turn up for 180 minutes at a weekend in the Sir Craig Reedie Centre. They will be placed in pools. Boys play in two separate round-robin groups of six players/five matches. The top three in each group then form a second group and the same for the bottom three. Ten matches in three hours. The strongest players all get to play each other and vice versa. Girls play a double round-robin. Everyone gets appropriate ranking points and ten games.
How it works
One game to 21 no setting throughout.
Three groups of six players with two courts per group (most likely two boys and one girl’s group but will adjust as entries dictate)
No guaranteed entry. There will be a random draw from entries one week before. Players are expected to be affiliated members of Badminton Scotland, most will be, if a member of a club, otherwise please join its free
Draws will be published around Wednesday in line with usual practice. Results will be published on Tournament Software.
There will be no prizes. Ranking points will be awarded following usual guidelines.
Good quality used shuttles will be used to reduce costs, you are welcome to bring your own Yonex shuttles along.
The aim is for everyone to play ten games and entry fee will be £11.
Event 1 – Under 13’s (born 2010 or later) Sir Craig Reedie Centre, Glasgow, Sunday 19th June
Event 2 – Under 12’s (born 2011 or later) Sir Craig Reedie Centre, Glasgow, Sunday 3rd July
Event 3 – Under 14’s (born 2009 or later) Sir Craig Reedie Centre, Glasgow on Sunday 17th July 10am – 1pm (Entries close 10th July)
Event 4 – Under 12’s (born 2011 or later) Sir Craig Reedie Centre, Glasgow on Sunday 31st July 10am – 1pm (Entries close 23rd July)
Event 5 – Under 11’s (born 2012 or later) Sir Craig Reedie Centre, Glasgow on Sunday 21st August 10am – 1pm (Entries close 13th August)
Event 6 – Under 13’s (born 2010 or later) Sir Craig Reedie Centre, Glasgow on Sunday 18th September 10am – 1pm (Entries close 10th September)
Entries by email only to juniors@glasgowbadminton.co.uk. Please include name, town/city postcode, mobile number, date of birth, club (if a club member) and SC Code (if you have one). We will let you know how to pay once a space is confirmed one week before.
